Autism Awareness Weekend at Zane Trace Inn & Craft Farm

Many of you know that I teach children with special needs. Several of my students have been identified as being on the autism spectrum. For those of you who do not know what autism is or how it affects children, let me tell you that it is a biomedical and neurological condition that manifests itself in a variety of ways. It is not a psychological phenomenon although it can affect children and their families psychologically. It can have a developmental component, a communications component, and/or a physical component. Autism is a spectrum disorder meaning that everyone who is identified as being on it can literally have different things going on than someone else. Asperger’s Syndrome is a “cousin” to autism. There are countless articles out there about autism with better, more precise, and more complicated definitions than I have provided here. But this is a blog about our 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Weekend at Zane Trace Inn & the Craft Farm, not specifically about autism, so please read on.

I belong to a group called the National Autism Association, South East Ohio Chapter. We educate parents and concerned people about autism and provide support to families in the southeast Ohio area who are affected by autism. The group helps families with costs that are not covered by insurance (which is a travesty in & of itself) such as special biomedical treatments, therapies, and home improvements that help families keep their children safe. In order to do that, we must raise money somehow. There is a golf outing on June 6 in Zanesville called “Tee It Up Fore Autism.” You can sponsor a team, sponsor a tee sign, or sign up as an individual player. It’s at the Zanesville Country Club. We also have raffle tickets available for $20 each or 4 for $50 or 10 for $100. The grand prizes include $1000 cash, $1000 Coconis Furniture gift certificate, a 50″ flat screen HDTV, a $500 VISA gift card or a set of 4 tires ($500 value). These are seriously great prizes!!!! You can email me for more info.

Zane Trace Inn & Craft Farm have 2 ways you can help with this project. First, for every $5 donation sent to us, we will enter your name into a drawing for a FREE Diva Delight Weekend Retreat. Get 6 tickets for every $25. Get 15 tickets for every $50. Make your checks payable to NAASEO and send them to us at ZTI, PO Box 164, Somerset, OH 43783. We will do the drawing on June 15!

Second, we will donate $20 for each Diva Delight registration made for the weekend of Sept 30 – Oct 2. The price is $260 per person for Fri – Sun, no discounts or specials apply unfortunately but it’s for a great cause! You will get a special gift in addition to all the pampering we will treat you to.

Please contact me by phone at 740-743-9230 or by emailing me at zanetraceinn@yahoo.com for information related to these events. Thank you for supporting the NAASEO. Thank you for supporting Zane Trace Inn & Craft Farm! Thank you for supporting my efforts of being a better teacher for my students!

Zane Trace Inn & Craft Farm visited Adventures in Stamping Show

We had a great time in Akron on April 16 & 17 at the Adventures in Stamping Show. There were 50 vendors there that were selling and demonstrating the newest stamping techniques and products. We saw some familiar friends like Sure Cuts A Lot, Gary Burlin, Eyelet Outlet, and Stamps by Judith. We met some new friends that aren’t too far away from Somerset: 100 Proof Press and Stamp LaJolla.

Talk about a small world. MaryAnn and JP own Stamp LaJolla and guess where they are from: Ashville, OH, also our hometown. What’s even better, they had a Bison Stamp! Some of you may be wondering, “What does that have to do with anything?” Our sons, Cody & Tyler, attend Bethany College in Wheeling, WV. Yep–their mascot is a Bison!!!! I just had to get it! You can check out their website at www.stamplajolla.com. They had lots of cool stuff in their booth. JP hand makes their rubber stamps and they had some very interesting designs. Remember–stamping is not just for cards. You can use stamps in all your scrapbooking pages, too.

Cindy Petal is the owner and operator of the Adventures in Stamping Show. It’s been going on for 16 years and is held at the John Knight Center, close to the University of Akron. You can watch our video on Zaney Girl TV!

Think Pink Crop at the Craft Farm

We had a great weekend, here at the Craft Farm, on our 2nd annual Think Pink Crop Weekend. We celebrated with wonderful food and laughter all weekend long. On Saturday, we went to Libby and Company Day Spa for a wonderfully relaxing day of pampering and giggling. They offer great facials, pedicures, massages, and manicures. It was great!

Bonnie, Donna, and Stephanie dutifully worked on big projects. Stephanie’s niece is getting married soon so she had volunteered to make these darling flower garden name tags, menus, and wedding programs. There are 150 guests expected at the wedding and reception so Stephanie used the Cricut to make all the little pieces and an assembly line approach to putting them together. It was quite a production! Hopefully, Stephanie’s niece will be suitably appreciative and everyone will ooh and ah over the beautifully crafted paper garden and other pieces.

Donna and Bonnie worked on National Scrapbooking Day projects for Hometown Crafts & Scrapbooking. My dear friends “scraplifted” ideas from a charity crop put on by the Scissor Sisters in Ashville, OH, last month. The projects are cute and easy to do but will certainly captivate any scrapbooker or cardmaker. Plus, they will make darling gifts to give for Mother’s Day or a birthday. You can call Donna at Hometown Crafts & Scrapbooking to make reservations for her National Scrapbook Day crop. (740-743-9334) She has limited spaces available so be sure and call for reservations.

Varina and I just did regular ol’ scrapping. I worked on few cards and some 12 x 12 pages plus I got my papers graded for school. My biggest problem was having too much paper but not anything that matched! So, I went to Hometown Crafts & Scrapbooking and stocked up on some pretty paper, cardstock and embellishments so I can “finish” my cancer journey book. Varina loved Stephanie’s pink and green, since those are her sorority colors, which happened to be the pages she was working on. The scrap fairy (Moi!) had to step in and help with a few of her pages. It’s a good thing we’ve known each other for a really long time! Ha Ha

The Think Pink Crop Weekend is to celebrate my anniversary of being in good health after conquering breast cancer. The ladies who attended graciously made donations to the Perry County Cancer Alliance and the American Cancer Relay for Life–Junction City Elementary team. Junction City Elementary School raised over $1900 for the Relay for Life. I am so proud of the students for supporting the Relay for Life. The 3rd – 5th grade students made the most beautiful cards in their art class, along with our art teacher Ms. Rollins, that I will be taking to the chemo clinic in Zanesville. First grade students donated a dollar to play Beach Blanket Bingo. Second grade students donated a dollar to go to a “dance” where we all did the Macarena, Hokey Pokey, and the Chicken Dance to name just a few. Fourth grade students donated a dollar to participate in crazy hat and sock days and to drink a pop in class. My co-workers, fantastic teachers/teacher assistants/staff members/principal and everyone at JCE, are tremendously supportive of my cancer journey and really got creative this year.

It was a great week at JCE that culminated in a wonderful weekend celebration with close friends. Thank you to: all the students and staff at JCE, the wonderful staff at Libby’s, Libby, Donna & Jim, Bonnie & Doug, Varina, Stephanie, Lori, Jan, and Ken. Love you all!

Zane Trace Inn & Craft Farm Visit Memories Expo 2011

Watch our latest video on Zaney Girl TV!
Listen to some of our customers and friends talk about why they like to come to the Memories Expo and to Karena Gibson from Offinger Mgmt as she explains why Memories Expo is so special to so many people.

We had a grand time at Memories Scrapbooking Expo 2011! This was our 5th year as a vendor at this wonderful scrapbooking, cardmaking, stamping, papercrafting shopping extravaganza. Well, that’s certainly a mouthful, isn’t it? And as Aimee so aptly put it, “It’s all about the STUFF!”

There were 49 vendors with all kinds of tools and supplies to drool over. Our long time friends Scrap-E-Doo and Dillon’s Laser Cut Designs were there. Creek Bank Creations had some cool tools in their booth. Happy Scrapper, Cord Camera’s Scrapbook Studio and Scrappin’ Outlet had very busy booths, too. Red Letter Journals, from Grove City, OH, had a big booth and sponsored the evening crop on Friday where 150 croppers got to play with paper all night long!

It was great seeing all of our friends and customers and meeting new ones. Can’t wait until next year!

Make your memories come to life…come stay with us!
